When I was a year old, my parents bought a run-down Craftsman house. The architecture was lovely.
The peeling wallpaper, chipped paint, and bare walls were not. Money was tight, so my art-school parents got busy. And they encouraged us to get busy as well.
Our house became a canvas. We painted walls, decorated windows, and hung our art. No creative idea was off-limits. Curiosity was king.
I now work out of my home studio, just two blocks from the house where I grew up. We color on our walls here, as well. When art is not painted directly onto a wall, it gets framed and displayed, printed on fabric or wallpaper, or turned into stationery.
Daily, personal necessities are tea, chocolate, and slippers. Family is my heart.
Favorite side quests include landscape painting, animation, performing arts, museums, libraries, history, game nights, travel, botany, and nature walks.
I will always, always encourage people to create.
Little me, between my two older sisters.
Rachel learned cartooning and portraiture from her parents. Later, she studied Graphic Design at Western Oregon State College. After a short and unfortunate stint in advertising art, she spent the next 25 years in Education. When teaching at a small art school in Portland Oregon, her love for creating her own work was revived. She now works out of her home studio, illustrating stories, creating patterns, and of course, drawing on walls.
